Over the next 30 days we will be making changes to both the incoming and outgoing mail filtering on our shared and reseller servers.

Around 8 years ago we introduced SpamExperts to our shared and reseller platform, offering inbound and outbound spam protection. At that time there were not many other solutions that met our expectations however better methods now exist.

We will soon be replacing SpamExperts with a new setup consisting of two separate filtering methods. All incoming mail will be scanned using MailScanner integrated within cPanel, from here you can change your spam score settings, release any emails flagged as spam, view statistics, tag emails as spam and more.
Outgoing email will be sent through a remote scrubbing service called MailChannels. Their service uses a large number of IP addresses and filtering techniques to make sure your mail is delivered quickly and reliably.

What do I need to do?

If you're using our nameservers or our DNS cluster you won't need to make any changes at all, we will take care of the MX changes for you.

If you are using a remote DNS provider and are using mx1.thewebhostserver.com and mx2.thewebhostserver.com as your MX entries you will need to change these to match your domain name instead. For example if your domain name is domain1.com the MX record will also need to be set to domain1.com.

What benefits does this change bring?

There are many advantages to the new system, the main ones being:
  • Outgoing mail is sent from an IP pool much larger than is currently available to us meaning a much smaller chance of email being blacklisted and not delivered.
  • Outgoing email can be closely monitored by us with new custom tools to prevent system abuse.
  • Incoming email filtering does not rely on a separate cluster of servers.
  • Fully GDPA compliant.
  • Absolutely no DNS changes required.

Are there any disadvantages?

As this is a new system it may need some time to learn the mail patterns, this process can be expedited by reporting any spam received through the cPanel interface.
